چکیده

OBJECTIVE One of the principle purposes of root canal obturation is to obtain hermetic sealing of the root canal system. According to the development of technology, many materials are now used in root canal filling. An in vitro dye leakage study was performed to evaluate the apical sealability of White-colored Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (WMTA) and Gray-colored Portland Cement (GPC) when used alone or as a sealer with gutta-percha points in root canal filling. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seventy-five single-rooted extracted human teeth were used in this study. After cleaning and shaping, the teeth were randomly divided into five equal groups of 15 teeth each based on the root canal filling material used; Group 1, (WMTA) alone; Group 2, (GPC) alone; Group 3, (Gutta-percha points + WMTA); Group 4, (Gutta-percha points + GPC); Group 5, (Gutta-percha points + AH26). Methylene blue was used to determine the apical leakage. After sectioning the teeth longitudinally, linear dye penetration was measured with a caliper under the stereomicroscope. Data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and one-way ANOVA tests with (P ≤ 0.05) as the level of significance. RESULTS The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences among the materials of five groups. CONCLUSION (WMTA) alone, (Gutta-percha points + WMTA), (GPC) alone and (Gutta-percha points + GPC) may be used in the root canal filling.

Sealing ability of mineral trioxide aggregate and Portland cement for furcal perforation repair: a protein leakage study.

The purpose of this study was to compare the sealing ability of gray mineral trioxide aggregate (GMTA), white MTA (WMTA), and both white and gray Portland cement as furcation perforation repair materials. A total of 120 human mandibular first molars were used. After root canal obturation and preparation of furcal perforations the specimens were randomly divided into four groups of 25 teeth each...

In-vitro Evaluation of Microleakage in Root Canal Obturation with Mineral Trioxide Aggregate and Calcium-enriched Mixture Cement Using Fluid Filtration

Introduction: Endodontic treatment failure is caused by the leakage of microorganisms and endotoxins, which leads to pathological lesions. Adequate seal of the root canal is essential to preventing recontamination and ensuring the long-term clinical success rate. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and calcium-enriched mixture cement (CEM) are common types of cement with adequate ...

Root-end filling with cement-based materials: An in vitro analysis of bacterial and dye microleakage

BACKGROUND One ideal property of a root-end filling material is its apical sealing ability. The aim of this in vitro study was to assess bacterial and dye microleakage of white and gray mineral trioxide aggregate (WMTA and GMTA), Portland cement and calcium-enriched mixture (CEM) cement used as root-end filling material, and to assess the agreement between these two test methods. MATERIALS AN...

Biocompatibility in vitro tests of mineral trioxide aggregate and regular and white Portland cements.

Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Portland cement are being used in dentistry as root end-filling materials. However, biocompatibility data concerning genotoxicity and cytotoxicity are needed for complete risk assessment of these compounds. In the present study, genotoxic and cytotoxic effects of MTA and Portland cements were evaluated in vitro using the alkaline single cell gel (comet) assa...
